Patty James
Patty James, B.S. and graduate student in Holistic Nutrition, Clayton College of Natural Health and a California Certified Natural Chef, is an educator and consultant in whole foods cookery and healthy eating. She is the developer of the Patty James Food Guide, a poster size guide to life-long healthy eating.
As a native of Sebastopol, a delightful town in the wine country of Northern California, it was only natural for Patty to found her cooking school in this hub of fine food and healthy eating.
The Patty James Cooking School & Nutrition Center offers classes for adults and kids in therapeutic cooking (such as cooking for diabetics), seasonal cooking and ethnic cuisine; a popular summer Kid’s Cooking Camp; as well as individual and organizational nutritional consultations. The school is located in a beautiful 1987 Victorian home in downtown Sebastopol. Patty and her husband grow most of the food for the school and, what they don't grow themselves, is purchased from local farmers. In May 2007, the Patty James Cooking School & Nutrition Center received organic certification, making it the only certified organic cooking school in the United States.
For people unable to make her local events, Patty offers tele-seminars on food and nutritional topics from her web site. Her newest program is Monthly Health Support, which offers email support in the form of weekly recipes, health tips, sample menus and nutritional news to members.
Patty is passionate about the art and science of cooking and natural health. She teaches about nutrition in plain language and inspires students through her dynamic style of teaching people of all ages and walks of life.
She is a frequent guest speaker at parent events, schools, markets as well TV and radio. She teaches at public and private schools around the country, the Clinton Foundation in New York, as well as to health practitioners.
Patty's passion is teaching others how to obtain or maintain their good health through eating nutritious, beautiful and delicious foods. Her philosophy is, "Eating well is not only possible in the busy life you lead, it is essential to living a balanced life. Through the process and pleasure of cooking we recognize the connection of all beings to each other. Food is more nurturing to body and spirit when we are part of the process."
